Compare on equal assumptions

Enter each plan’s annual premium after any confirmed employer contribution or assistance, then copy its deductible, coinsurance and total in-network out-of-pocket maximum. Use a single allowed-charge amount for both plans. These are illustrative scenarios, not insurer quotes or a forecast of treatment needs. The same care can have different negotiated prices under different plans, so repeat the exercise if you have plan-specific estimates.

Calculation

For each plan, modeled care cost is the smaller of the maximum and the deductible portion plus coinsurance on the remaining charges. Annual cost adds premiums. The covered-care ceiling is annual premium plus the maximum; excluded and out-of-network services can add more.

With the illustrative defaults, Plan A costs $3,600 + $4,000 + 30% × $8,000 = $10,000. Plan B costs $5,400 + $1,500 + 20% × $10,500 = $9,000. Plan B is $1,000 lower for this scenario only. At zero charges, Plan A has the lower premium. Neither result makes a plan suitable if a necessary doctor or medicine is excluded.

Limits

The model omits copays, service-specific rules, separate deductibles, family accumulators and tax effects. Inputs stay in the current page and are not submitted to an insurer. Confirm any subsidy through an official application rather than treating this worksheet as an eligibility decision.
